Eternity Minded Ministries (EMM)
is a non-profit organization with the focus of reaching people for
eternity through five points of ministry: evangelistic festivals;
daytime ministries to hospitals, orphanages, schools, prisons and
churches; humanitarian aid; church planting; and training and
discipleship programs.
Three months ago, Evangelist
Dan Owens visited with President Yvan E. Vasquez Valera of Loreto Peru
to share his vision of ministry for the capitol of Loreto, Iquitos.
During the visit, Owens shared his two-year commitment of ministry,
which includes all five points. Owens also shared EMM's commitment to
partner with the Glass of Milk Program (a feeding program in Peru aimed
for young children) by supplying portable stoves to help committees feed
more children at a faster rate.
Owens asked President Valera
about his vision for Iquitos, and how EMM could best minister to his
people. President Valera was blessed to hear about EMM's two-year
commitment to the people and aid to the Glass of Milk program. Valera
made a heartfelt plea for EMM to take their humanitarian aid one-step
further. President Valera said, "I am very concerned about the health of
our children. They are so small due to the parasites that are stealing
nutrition from their bodies. Mr. Owens, please help us by providing
de-worming medicine and vitamins for 20,000 children here." Valera, a
Christian man, also shared a valuable insight with Owens "If you help
fix their children, you will win the parents."
"It is our prayer that we
will be able to grab the attention of the people long enough to share
Christ with them. We will be using music, special guests like President
Valera, and even a nightly fireworks display to peak the curiosity of
those walking by the Plaza in order to share the Good News with them,"
says Owens.
On October 22, 2007, Eternity
Minded Ministries will be responding to President Valera's challenge as
a team of 25 devoted believers depart for the San Juan district of
Iquitos where they will begin ministry in the city. EMM has been awarded
a matching grant from SG Foundation for $18,000 towards the first
segment of this mission in the district of San Juan. Subsequent missions
are scheduled for the three remaining districts in Iquitos: Belen,
Punchana, and Iquitos. The grant provided by SG Foundation is
significant and will make a big difference for Mission San Juan. EMM
partners have also stepped up and have exceeded the $18,000 match.
Although even with these gifts, there is still much work to be done in
Iquitos and support needed to fulfill the mission.
Evangelist Dan Owens makes a
heartfelt plea to EMM friends and partners. "Do pray that the people of
Iquitos will have open hearts. We need to pray against the dark forces
of evil that want to triumph over the people there and keep them in
bondage to fear and failure," says Owens.
